Why Save the Dates are becoming popular in India

What’s the point of all the decor, food and all the arrangements if your most loved humans are not a part of your big day?

Save the Dates are becoming increasingly popular in India. Because, well, why not! You want your family and friends to attend your wedding. Because weddings are all about being together and no celebrations are possible without your loved ones.

With almost everybody from a school kid to a senior person these days with a super busy and engaging lifestyle, couples in India are increasingly recognizing the need to inform their guests of their wedding date.

You don’t want your favorite humans to book their tickets to the Bahamas or to New Zealand for a vacation and then find yourself torn are in difficult spot and conversations. Do you agree? Or when your mum’s fav cousin is in the UK and needs to be informed well in advance of your wedding date. Giving a call is always a good idea but for events as significant as weddings, it’s always a good idea to be on a bit of a formal side. I know you get the point. This is where Save the Dates come into the picture.

What are Save the Date Cards?

Save the Dates officially announce your wedding date and location to your guests for the first time. You are basically requesting your guests to save/ reserve their calendars with your wedding date well in advance so that they can be present for you and don’t plan anything else on your wedding day. And the guests also get an assurance that, well, they would certainly be invited to the wedding.

But do you really have to send Save the Date?

The simple answer is no. But I recommend you to send them for a few simple and reasons:

  1. Your humans would feel worthy and would totally appreciate your effort in making them a part of your celebrations from the very beginning. This way your parents’ pesky relatives also feel important, happy and a part of the process. Okay! Hah.

  2. If you are getting married on a heavy wedding date, you would want your humans to attend your wedding rather than disappointed you later, right? So if you want to get the first dibs, you should send a Save the Date.

  3. Your guests would appreciate that Save the Dates help them make necessary travel arrangements in time and save money on booking early tickets, apply for leave from their workplace, not plan a vacation around your wedding date.

  4. Save the Date is an early announcement. If you plan well in advance your main wedding invitations, your wedding decor and other wedding stationery can be all themed and matched for a perfect and seamless experience for you guests.

When to send Save the Dates?

Save the Dates are usually sent 4-6 months (6-8 months before for destination weddings) before the wedding. The gives the guests ample time to plan their calander, book any tickets and/or transportation if required and make other necessary arrangements. If you don’t have this much time, you should send them as soon as after your wedding date and location has been fixed.

Who should receive Save the Dates?

Only those who you plan to invite on your wedding should receive Save the Dates. In case you miss someone by mistake, you can directly send them your wedding invites. But in case you send your Save the Date to someone by mistake who you don’t want to invite to your wedding, it would be rude if you’d send them your wedding invitation. You can’t make a U - turn. You would be obligated to send them your wedding invitation as well.

What info to include in your Save the Date?

Wedding Date, Wedding location. If you have a wedding website, you should include the link to the website as well. And of course the name of the bride and groom. You may also want to include a note “Invitation to follow” or “Formal invitation to follow”. But it is totally your choice.

What if you don’t have your venue planned yet?

You may share the venue in your Save the Date if you wish to but don’t necessarily have to do it. Sharing the city name usually suffices.

How to send your Save the Date?

In India, Save the Dates are usually not sent as physical cards. E-invites are the most popular way of sending Save the Dates in India. You may send them as iMessage/ Whatsaap Text or email depending on your relationship with your guests.

Why are e-invites as Save the Dates becoming popular?

For one simple reason, they’re convenient. You only invest in the Designing Cost and/or time and can simply send them in one click from the comfort of your phone.
