E invites for Indian Weddings

Wedding invitations in the time of Covid-19

Well, the year 2020 would be long remembered for the way it has shaken the world. With most weddings and events getting postponed, it seems like the Social Distancing trend is here to stay for sometime.

Indian weddings usually have a long guest lists and traditionally invitations are hand delivered to the guests whenever possible. And for those relatives and friends staying away, wedding invitations are generally sent by post.

Now with the cap on the number of people can attend social gatherings, it is becoming increasingly difficult to arrange for printed invitations in small quantities, hand deliver the wedding invitations and send wedding invitations via post. I’m sure you agree with me on this.

The answer to all these problems is digital invitations or e-invites!

Why should you send E-invites?

  1. Perhaps the biggest reason to send e-invites is cost saving. While for traditional printed invites you have to invest a huge chunk for printing and assembly in addition to the designing cost, for custom e-invites, you only have to invest in the Designing cost.

  2. Time saving and hassle free because we live in an era of digital communication. Why to complicate things and increase your hustle when you can save your time and effort? Because sending Indian Wedding Invitations the customary way is incredibly time consuming.

  3. You save yourself from the risk of the pandemic  and unnecessary exposure while traveling to your relatives’ homes for hand delivering the invites  and you also save them from any unnecessary risk t the exposure.

  4. You don’t have to worry about posting the invitations as you can send e-invites from the comfort of your home.

But is it appropriate to send Indian Wedding invitations as
e- invites?

Well, the world has seen a major change this year for everything and anything. Adapting to the change is the best thing to do right now. While some might not agree to send Wedding Invitations as e-invites as weddings are a formal event. But you can follow e-invite etiquette to make sure you don’t hurt anyone’s sentiments and make them feel important as a part of your wedding even though you’re sending them an e-invite.

How should you send e-invites in India? The etiquette for sending Indian Wedding Invitations in digital form.

First of all make a guest list and start giving your guests a call one by one. Customary, it’s always the parents of the bride and groom who should make these calls to the guests. Let your guests know the date, time and location of the wedding and the names of the bride and groom, of course. It’s a good idea to Invite them personally with a phone call first. Then tell them that you’d be sending them as e-invite and request them to consider it a formal invitation. Now it’s appropriate to send them your digital invitation via Whatsapp and/or email.

When is it appropriate to send e-invites for Indian Weddings?

Traditionally a wedding invitation should be sent out 6-8 weeks before the wedding. You should send out the e-invite in the same way. An additional step would be to give your guest a reminder call and or a text a week prior to the event.  You can also consider sending Save the Dates as e-invites.
